The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to the laboratories at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital following a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.

Peter L. Perrotta, MD, medical director of clinical laboratories, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the pathology and laboratory services being provided at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

“Laboratory inspections have become more difficult over the years as regulatory standards evolve, especially for highly-complex laboratories like ours that must support the testing needs of a wide range of clinical specialists” Dr. Perrotta said.

“The leadership at WVU Medicine appreciates the commitment of all the technologists and staff who have helped to maintain the highest standard of care for all patient testing services,” Steve Tancin, vice president of operations at WVU Hospitals, said.

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. They also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program, and the overall quality management program.

CAP is the world’s largest organization of board-certified pathologists and leading provider of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing programs.
