WVU-Kansas hoops partnership looking to net donations

Friday, January 3, 2020

WVU and Big 12 rival Kansas are partnering to fight cancer this basketball season with the WVU Hoops for Cancer Challenge.

Beginning at today's (Jan. 3) game at Kansas and continuing through the Mountaineers' Feb. 12 home matchup at the Coliseum, both schools are challenging fans to donate to their cancer centers in an effort to advance care for the 27,000 people diagnosed with cancer each year in Kansas and West Virginia alone.

During these two games, WVU fans will be encouraged to support the Norma Mae Cancer Reseearch Endowment Fund launched in memory of Coach Bob Huggins' mother. The fund supports clinical research trials aimed at developing better treatment options. This collaborative effort will move the WVU Cancer Institute and University of Kansas Cancer Center closer to new treatments and cures that enhance the lives of patients.
